MAWAR VILLA
Our story

A small villa, built to feel like a friend's home.

In 2014, I Made Wijaya returned to Seminyak after fifteen years working in boutique hotels in Singapore. He wanted to open the kind of place he had always wanted to stay in but could never find in Bali.

Why Mawar exists

When Made looked at Bali in 2014, he saw two kinds of places to stay. There were big resorts with hundreds of rooms and long queues at the breakfast buffet. And there were beach clubs built more for Instagram than for sleep. What was missing was something small, calm, and personal. A place where the team knew your name before you landed, and still remembered it when you came back.

Made had spent fifteen years opening and running boutique hotels across Singapore and Hong Kong. He knew what it took to get the small things right. The perfect pillow. A kitchen that cooked real food. Staff who stayed long enough to actually care. He came home to Bali to build exactly that.

Mawar today is six private suites around a central pool, a kitchen that runs every morning and most evenings, a spa that uses local ingredients, and a team most of whom have been here since the beginning. It is small on purpose. That is how we keep the promise.

What we believe

A different kind of Bali stay.

Two ideas that shape every decision we make.

Our promise

We are small enough that every stay matters to us. You will never be a room number here. Before you arrive, we already know what kind of pillow you like, whether you want a quiet morning or a packed itinerary, and if there is anything we should keep out of your food. That level of attention is only possible because we chose to stay small. We have no plans to change that.

Our practice

Fewer rooms means more attention on each one. Our team has mostly been here for years, not weeks. The food in our kitchen is food we would eat ourselves. The design was built to age well, not to look good in one photoshoot. Every decision at Mawar comes back to the same question: would we be happy staying here? If the answer is not an easy yes, we fix it.

The team

Four people who make Mawar feel like Mawar.

A general manager, a head chef, a spa director, and a guest concierge. Between them they have been here a combined thirty years.

IM

I Made Wijaya

General Manager

Born in Denpasar, Made spent fifteen years running boutique hotels in Singapore and Hong Kong before coming home to look after Mawar. He greets every guest on the first morning and remembers your coffee order by the second.

RP

Rio Pratama

Head Chef

Rio cooked at Mozaic in Ubud and Locavore before opening our small kitchen. His menus rotate weekly with whatever is good at the morning market, and he is happy to walk you through the dishes as he plates.

PA

Putu Aryana

Spa and Wellness Director

Putu trained as a Balinese healer before adding modern spa therapy and yoga teacher training to her practice. She designs every treatment menu and personally trains the four therapists on staff.

Guest stories

What our guests say

Mawar Villa is small enough that every stay matters. The notes our guests leave behind are the only review we trust.

We have stayed at the big-name resorts in Bali. Mawar is the only place that felt like a home. Six suites, one chef, one pool, and a team that already knew our names by the second morning.

Stayed in the Frangipani Suite, Sydney, Australia

We took the whole villa for our wedding. Lisa and the team handled the florist, the music, and a last-minute typhoon back-up plan with zero stress. Forty guests, one perfect weekend.

Buyout wedding, March 2025, Singapore

Chef Rio's tasting menu was the highlight of a two-week Bali trip. The kitchen sent a hand-written note explaining each course and remembered I was vegan from the booking form.
